Developed by PAGeo and GGS, the ‘A-Z of Ground Gas’ courses cover best practices in ground gas investigation, monitoring, risk assessment, solutions design, protection and verification. Training material draws on the latest innovative techniques and guidance, as well as case studies, practical demonstrations, and the experience of the course trainers.
Two day course
We are offering a 2 day course, designed to suit the differing needs of professionals dealing with ground gas. There is an option to attend just one day if required.

Course trainers

Simon Talbot
Managing Director (Retired), Ground Gas Solutions Ltd
Simon is an Engineering Geologist and Chartered Engineer with 40 years professional experience working in both the private and public sectors. Most of this work has focused on contaminated land and ground gas issues. Prior to starting GGS in 2009, he spent 11 years working as Director of Greater Manchester Geological Unit where alongside teaching, training and research he collaborated on the development of continuous ground-gas monitoring. Simon has published several technical papers and regularly speaks at national and international conferences.

John Naylor
Technical Director, Ground-Gas Solutions Ltd
John has over 20 years professional experience working within the contaminated land and landfill arenas for both the public and private sectors. He has worked to improve the contaminated land investigation, assessment, remediation and verification at both practical and regulatory levels. A key developer of continuous ground gas monitoring methodologies, John has helped to establish guidance in ground gas issues, working closely with consultants, local authorities and landowners. As well as developing verification and validation best practice and training. John is a Chartered Environmentalist and is a member of both the EPUK Quality Committee and Vice Chair of the Radon Council.

Joao Dyer
Managing Director, Ground Gas Solutions Ltd
Joao Dyer, our GGS Managing Director, is a Geo-Environmental Scientist who joined GGS thirteen years ago as a graduate. Joao is experienced in the investigation of hazardous ground gas issues on a wide range of landfill, oil and gas, and construction projects. Joao currently oversees the delivery of projects at GGS, whilst helping to expand our services and support our regional offices. Joao is a Fellow of the Geological Society and a Member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences.

Peter Atchison
Managing Director,

PAGeoContracting Ltd
Peter is a geosynthetic specialist with over 40 years’ experience in geomembranes and associated products. As a consultant he specialises in contaminated land issues, offering technical and commercial consultancy support as well as materials and Contracting services across the sector. Peter chairs the ISO International Standards committee and represents the UK on CEN European Committee for Standardisation, where he is involved in standards setting and advice to the legislative process. Peter also sits on the board of CCS, EIC and BGA, PCA and The Radon Council.

Neil Salvidge
Training, Development and Assessment
Having originally trained as a carpenter and joiner, Neil moved to the geomembrane sector in the 1990s and in 2000 he joined PAGeoTechnical Ltd as an Installation Technician and trainer, promoting best practice through training. Neil gained Assessor status with CITB, as the initial assessor for NVQ Level 2 in gas membrane installation. He is involved with developing industry standards and has supported the development of NVQ Level 4 Verification of Ground Gas protection systems. In 2018 Neil established his independent training company and remains passionate on the delivery of quality training.
Supporting Continual Professional Development (CPD)
Radon and Ground gas CPD appointments are now available. These are virtual or in-person and last between 45-60 mins.
